Is Chrome faster than lightning? We rented a 9’ Tesla to find out.
Our strategy for the North American launch of Google Chrome was simple: show people how fast the Chrome browser is. But since there was no benchmark for speed on the internet, we created one and called it "Chrome fast". To prove how fast "Chrome fast" actually was, we built scientific tests that compared the speed of the browser to fast things in the physical world – a potato gun, sound waves, and lightning.
The experiments were handcrafted and captured with high speed cameras and everything was shot in-camera. The videos were the most tweeted-about videos online the day they launched and Google Chrome overtook Safari as the most popular browser in the world.
